| We are always looking for volunteers to help out with Girls In Action, TECHgyrls, Youth In Motion, and events. Every little bit counts in a major way. If you can fit us into your schedule once a week, we would love to have your support! Donate your time, have lots of fun and make a difference in the lives of young people!
Girls In ActionGirls In Action offers an environment in which a diverse group of middle school girls can build their personal strengths and decision-making abilities while exploring meaningful possibilities for their futures. Program activities focus on the six core areas of: self-esteem and empowerment, communication skills, healthy lifestyles, community connection, career development, and cultural awareness. GIA groups meets on Mondays (7th grade), Tuesdays (6th grade), and Fridays (8th grade) from 3:30 - 5:30 pm. TECHgyrlsTECHgyrls raises awareness, confidence, and competence in crucial areas of technology. A very hands-on and popular component, TECHgyrls helps girls develop and improve the computer skills that will help them academically and in their career. Financial Literacy and "Starting Your Own Business" curriculum is also included. TECHgyrls meets on Wednesdays (group A) and Thursdays (group B) from 3:30 - 5:30 pm. Youth In MotionYouth In Motion provides free after school dance classes and performance opportunities for middle school girls. The dance team meets on Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 pm. The YWCA dance studio is a safe and enduring space for girls to express themselves and discover their potential. Dance classes include Hip Hop, Latin, and Creative Expression. Other art forms include spoken word, movement exercises, poetry, photo, video, and performance. EventsGirls In Action implements several events in the community that need volunteers, including: - Guest Speakers on Topics for Teens (be a guest speaker or help us find one)
- Father/Daughter Valentines Dance (help us plan the 1st annual event for the community)
- Youth in Motion Guest Teachers (be a guest dance teacher or help us find one)
- Dance performances (help us find opportunites to perform in the community)
- Holiday Food Drive (help us collect food from the community to donate to the Westside Food Bank)
- Girl Central Conference for Middle School Girls (volunteer to help organize and/or execute a leadership conference)
- Career Panel for Girls (serve on our panel and talk about your career journey)
- Field Trips (suggest/coordinate a field trip for our girls)
- Week Without Violence Activity (community presentation on conflict resolution)
- "Mix It Up Day" at School (lunch activities to promote making new friends)
