School-Aged Childcare

We provide a fun, safe and loving atmosphere with room for growth throughout the years with a balance, freedom and structure to be who they are through homework, crafts, and the monkey bars. We preserve the dignity of each and every chld from their tantrums and tears to their rainbow of smiles. We respect their individuality and are always open to hugs. We encourage their interests even if it's snails and bugs. We encourage the sky to be green and the grass to be blue, oh and yes parents, we encourage you too! We welcome spills and messes, in fact we insist. For a day without cleanup is a day without bliss.

The YWCA's after-school program is dedicated to providing a home away from home for children aged 5-12 who participate in our licensed program. Using YWCA vans, our staff pick the children up at the end of the school day at their respective school sites and bring them to the child care center at the YWCA. There, they are assisted with homework and offered an ever-changing variety of activities that spark new interests and kindle possible future talents. There are field trips to the park and beach, and four times a year the children put on a show for their parents.

Day camps during the holidays and summer offer an even broader scope of activities. Guest speakers from the community talk with the children about issues such as safety, the environment and health, or they entertain the children with magic shows, dances, etc. There are swimming lessons, excursions to theme parks, crafts and feasts that the kids prepare.

With an anti-bias curriculum, our program enables a diverse group of children an opportunity to learn, make new friends and have fun in a supportive environment. In addition to being CPR and First Aid Certified, our professional staff know the importance of hugs and encouragement as well as participation in activities that are noisy, put sand in their shoes, paint on their clothes, water in their hair and make them exhausted by the end of the day. Our staff are also expert in the rules of handball, Candyland, Monopoly, Twister, and the all important "no cuts in line!"

Our school-aged childcare is sponsored in part by First Federal Bank of California.
