MOMMY & ME YOGA (For New Moms and Babies)

Hey New Moms! This class is designed especially for you! Join other new moms and their babies for a yoga class that will specifically help you work on re-gaining core strength as well as upper body strength, overall toning, breathing and stress reduction. The instructor, Michelle Wolfson is a certified yoga instructor, Massage Therapist and mother of four. (Recommended for moms of non-walkers and younger.)

Core Fusion is a great new combo class that includes a 15 minute low-impact, dance warm-up and ends with a deep 15 minute stretch. Its’ primary focus is on the core muscles: abdominals, back, chest, hips and glutes. Sarah Canfield is a certified yoga instructor and a choreographer/dancer of Coastline Dance.

New!! Jujutsu-Self-Defense/Self-Development (teens - adults)

Develop the physical skills needed for self-defense as well as confidence and personal growth with Seibukan Jujutsu. Students will learn effective self-defense against armed, unarmed, single and multiple assailants. The Sensei, William Candelario, has studied martial arts for 24 years, has won numerous tournaments and medals around the world and has chosen Bujutsu and Budo (martial arts and ways) as a way of life and philosophy in the unification of mind, body and spirit.

Shorinji Renshinkan Karate emphasizes traditional combat style and evasive self-defense techniques. A practitioner of Shorinji strives to improve their strength, flexibility and connection of mind-body. WOMEN'S BASIC BALLET

This is a class for women who have never taken ballet or those who want to review terms and steps. Explained in an easy manner, this is a great yet gentle way to exercise. Includes barre and center steps to classical music. Wear gym or ballet clothes.

BARRE CLASS

This great new class, taught by Nurit, is specially designed for women. It's done primarily at the ballet barre, but also includes some center and aerobic exercises. We will concentrate on balance, alignment, placement, coordination and upper body strength. Utilizing principles of dance, the exercises will enhance posture, elongate muscles and improve joint articulation and extension. The instructor, Nurit Krauss was trained at Julliard School, Martha Graham Center and the Joffrey Ballet - Don't Miss This Opportunity!

Life Drawing Workshop

LOCAL ARTISTS! ART STUDENTS! The YWCA is now offering an affordable, uninstructed figure drawing workshop on Tuesday nights using high quality, diverse models. This is a great opportunity to hone your drawing skills with live models and to meet other artists in a professional, yet comfortable atmosphere. LIMITED ENROLLMENT!

Belly Dancing

Body Fat Testing

Experts agree that body fat testing is a better, more accurate method of determining your fitness level. The anti-obesity initiative started by former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop, has issued an advisory stating that one's body fat percentage is the superior measure of healthy weight. This announcement follows new research supporting body fat percentage as an indicator of health risk. Using the caliper skinfold method, you can learn your body fat and lean body mass levels. Mini-lifestyle consultation with exercise and nutritional recommendations is also included.

Girls in Action (GIA) Summer Camp!(Ages 10 - 14)

There's nothing like Girl Power! Give your daughter an experience that will enrich her life with lasting friendships and fond memories. GIA Summer Camp will give your daughter a fun filled summer and in a safe, caring environment with other middle school girls. The program includes outdoor activities, field trips and projects that focus on core areas of: self-esteem and personal development, health and fitness, community connection, creative futures, communication skills and cultural awareness. Parents' Corner

A Place For Parents: Nurturing Families and Community

We believe that every family needs support and a strong sense of community. Connecting with other and building confidence as a parent helps develop strong families. A Place For Parents offers Toddlers/Infants & Me Classes and a variety of Parent Support groups. Caregiver/Teacher Training is also available.

The classes provide a stimulating environment in which children can practice new skills through creative play, music making, finger rhymes, dance and parachute play. Parents are able to discuss developmental issues and concerns.

Toddler & Me Classes (1-3 year olds) $17 per class, payable in 2 month blocks
Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays - 9:15 - 10:15 a.m.
Wednesdays - 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. and 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Tuesdays, 10:45 - 11:45 a.m.

Parent Support Classes
(1-3 year old children) Mondays, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., (1-3 year old children) Thursdays, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. $17 per class, payable in 2 month blocks.
(3-6 year old children) Thursdays, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. $20 per class, childcare provided.

Cottage Activity Time (2 hour drop-off groups for 2 1/2 yr. olds)

This program is based on supporting development through play where social skills and conflict resolution skills are emphasized. We support the separation process between parent and child. Organic snacks are served. Parent support groups available. (Children do not have to be toilet trained)

Your child will learn basic soccer skills in this important first step in physical fitness and sports. New!! Hip Hop Dance Team

(Ages 11 - 18 years)
Students will have a blast in this fast paced, fun, high-energy dance class! Girls will learn Hip Hop movement/dance. This class will teach choreography and technique and also emphasize bringing style and personality to the movement. Learn the elements of Hip Hop and the latest dance trends. Students will have the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Students will continue basic dance technique as well. Dance conditioning will be introduced to strengthen the body for more advanced dance training. Veronica Castro is a professional dancer, director and teacher who has taught and performed around the world and has coached a 3-time State Championship Hip Hop team.

Creative Movement / Dance (Ages 3 - 5)

Creative movement for children. Children get to create steps after learning basic skills of walk, run, jump, skip, slide, hop and gallop. Children's storylines will be used in each class!

"Broadway Stars" (Ages 6-10)

Registration

SIGN UP TODAY! Pre-Registration helps to ensure that the class you wish to take will still be offered and available. Any classes with insufficient enrollment may be cancelled.

By Mail or In Person

Send payment with the registration form in this brochure or register in person. Register anytime the YWCA is open. The YWCA recommends you consult your physician before participating in any physical program.

Hours of Operation

Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. - Front Desk closes at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday: 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Schedule may fluctuate due to early a.m. and late p.m. classes - closed for major holidays.

Visitors & Guests

Membership in the YWCA is required for all classes except for guests and one day seminars. Members or visitors may try one class by paying a guest fee. Anyone may visit a bodyshop or gentle exercise class once at no charge.

Refunds

No refunds for programs will be issued unless a class is cancelled! Please be aware of this before you enroll!

Absences

Absence from class does not reduce the cost of operating YWCA programs. For this reason an unavoidable absence does not result in a refund or partial refund of class fees. We cannot pro-rate for the first week of class if a student registers late.

Scholarships

Limited Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis in exchange for work at the YWCA. See front desk.

Showers-Lockers-Sauna

Use of YWCA showers, lockers & sauna is limited to women members currently enrolled in YWCA classes. Lockers are available for same-day use, please bring a combination lock. Using the sauna before exercising is not recommended.

Donations

The YWCA is a non-profit organization. All contributions are eligible for a tax deduction. Gifts of cash, stocks or property are welcome. You may designate your gift to our endowment fund. Please consider the Y when you are in a position to make a contribution. If considering a gift for a special purpose, contact Executive Director, Julia Miele. Arrangements can be made according to your wishes. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful gift.
