YWCA Homeschooler's Club

Parents home schooling their children continually look for educational opportunities in the community around them. Combine that with an opportunity for social interaction and you have an optimum learning environment that satisfies the student and parent.

The YWCA provides important learning opportunities for an active population of home-schooled students, in a self-sustaining program. Families appreciate identifying with a central place and connecting with a larger group of people for part of their learning activities.

Seven years ago, the YWCA Santa Monica / Westside began offering daytime classes for students schooled at home. Today, the "Homeschooler's Club" brings a large number of children together for learning and socializing in a fun setting. The series of classes offered by the "Club" has been enthusiastically attended by children aged 6-13 years. Families appreciate identifying with a central place and connecting with a large group of people for part of their learning activities.

Our continually-expanding curriculum has included classes in theatrical arts, gymnastics, art, writing, music, the Alaskan Wilderness, and science. We currently offer "World Discovery" a three hour program including science and social studies/literature classes.

The YWCA is continually looking for experienced teachers and volunteer guest speakers to help expand the curriculum, especially in cultural geography (the study of different cultures through art, music, food, history and language of countries). Students pay a fee per class; and our teachers are paid professionals.
