In his career as a producer and talent agent, Jorge Insua has worked for the #1 talk show on English-language television (The Oprah Winfrey Show), the #1 talk show on Spanish-language television (The Cristina Show), and the #1 talent agency in the world (Creative Artists Agency, the Los Angeles shop known for representing the entertainment industry’s greatest innovators). Presently, Insua is president of marketing and development of Cristina Saralegui Enterprises (CSE) the global entertainment empire helmed by Cuban television icon Cristina Saralegui.
He began his television career at The Oprah Winfrey Show during his last year at John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH. He interviewed the talk show host as part of a senior project — after pursuing her publicist relentlessly for seven months. Winfrey was so impressed with his perseverance, she offered him an internship. Within six months, he was a paid member of the staff, working his way through reception, the fan mail department, and ultimately into production — where he served as production assistant and audience coordinator. Within six years of his arrival, he was a full-fledged producer. After seven years at Winfrey’s Harpo Productions, Insua went on to become the senior supervising producer of The Cristina Show, the #1 talk-show on Spanish-language television seen in 18 countries around the world, with an estimated audience of 100 million. Under his direction, the program underwent a complete makeover: a new set was built and a greater emphasis was placed on relationship-oriented topics. Ratings surged 33% in the coveted 18-49 demographic. The Cristina Show went on the road as well, with Insua and his team producing shows internationally in Acapulco, Mexico City and Caracas, in addition to U.S. locations such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and San Antonio. After leaving The Cristina Show, Insua turned his attention to independent projects within the burgeoning Latino entertainment industry. He served as an executive consultant for Sony Television/Latin America, working on developing original Spanish-language programming for the Telemundo Network. In this role, he was involved in all aspects of production for Spanish-language remakes of Charlie’s Angels, Starsky & Hutch and Who’s the Boss — assisting on casting, adapting scripts, developing consumer marketing strategies, working with actors and serving as a liaison between U.S. and Mexican production outfits. Shortly thereafter, he founded JAI Entertainment, his own management and public relations company. Here, he focused his talents on bilingual promotion, introducing Latin American actors and singers to Hollywood and U.S. audiences. Among his clients was television host Cristina Saralegui, Chilean actor Cristián de la Fuente (Driven, In Plain Sight) and Mexican actress and pop star Patricia Manterola. Creative Artists Agency took note of his work and Insua joined the team there as a motion picture talent agent, where he focused on finding the next generation of Hispanic talent: Among his many clients were: Mexican actress Ana Claudia Talancón (El Crimen del Padre Amaro), Spanish actress Paz Vega (Spanglish), talk show host Cristina Saralegui (The Cristina Show), Mexican singer Alejandro Fernandez, Ricky Martin, and actor Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy). Today, Insua serves as president of marketing and development at Cristina Saralegui Enterprises (CSE). Here, he oversees all marketing, advertising and public relations for the company, including the new talk/variety program Pa’lante con Cristina (Moving Forward with Cristina) for Telemundo. He also managed the launch and promotion of the wildly successful Casa Cristina, a home furnishings collection. One of the nation’s fastest growing home products lines, it comprises 15 different product categories including furnishings, lighting, bedding and bath. A native of Ecuador, Insua grew up in Cleveland, and lived in Paris where he studied at the Sorbonne. He currently resides in Los Angeles. Insua is fluent in English, Spanish and French.
